Vegan Vanilla & Strawberry Milkshake
Happy Canada Day to all my fellow Canadians! This day is not just special because I’m Canadian, but because it’s also my Dad’s birthday! We have big plans going on for today, but first…I have to introduce to you my new-found love…Vanilla Milkshakes! Who knew you could have something SO creamy, indulgent, and dessert-like while it’s sugar-free and vegan!
I’m in love with it…and my head is swimming with a gazillion different flavours of milkshakes, now that I’ve got my basic vanilla milkshake recipe down. Am I so weird that I go crazy about something like this? Maybe it’s because, deep down inside, I’m a sugar-crazed human who needs to find healthy ways to get my sweet tooth gratified. Probably. Sad, but true.
So in honour of this great day, I not only made a vanilla shake, but I made a strawberry version to layer with it to celebrate our national flag. Red and white. Okay. I know…it’s more like pink and white. Believe me…I’m not trying to celebrate Barbie. But I wasn’t about to make a tomato milkshake. That’s just a little odd. This serves 2.
Vegan Vanilla Milkshake
- 1/3 cup light coconut milk
- 1 cup almond milk (frozen into ice cubes)
- 1 tbsp. agave nectar
- 1 packet Truvia (opt)
- 1 ½ tsp. pure vanilla
- Pinch sea salt
Before you make this, you need to pour out 1 cup of almond milk (here’s my almond milk recipe) into an ice cube tray and freeze. Now, simply blend the rest of the ingredients well in your high-speed blender.
Now if you want to make the strawberry version…
Vegan Strawberry Milkshake
- 1 batch of Vegan Vanilla Milkshake
- 5 large, frozen strawberries
Blend up, same as before. Simple as that. Be sure to use fresh, farm-grown strawberries…they really pack a punch in the flavour department, that store bought just can’t quite cut it!
Once I had blended my vanilla milkshake, I just took half the recipe out, added strawberries to the rest, blended it, and proceeded to alternate the strawberry and vanilla milkshake in the glasses. If I had had some fresh strawberries I would have added them for a garnish. Feel free to do what I did not, because it would’ve been pretty. Sniff.

Today: We have fun things in store for this double holiday…we’re headed to a beautiful mountain park with lakes and waterfalls. We’ll be hiking, playing ball, having a picnic for lunch and dinner, and enjoying the beauty of the mountains. On our way home, we’ll be stopping at our hometown to watch the Canada Day fireworks…we’ll be leaving really soon for this magical day. I can’t wait to hang out with my family and friends!
In other news…look at this deal I got!
These lip glosses and shimmers are like $5-10 each and I scored them on clearance for $3 total! That totally made my day. I. Love. Sales. And no, I didn’t need any more lip gloss BUT they’re natural and…pretty…and…cheap…and…and…it was suuuuuch a good deal! I’m such a girl.

I crave milkshakes almost constantly when it’s hot out, so you’re speaking my language here! Happy to have such a heathy version to turn to, as well.

I would love to have this specially after just having a great dinner. Looks so yummy
I’ve been loving making smoothies lately! All of the summer fruit is so enticing. A milkshake would be fabulous as well.
Yum! Thank you for not using soy milk, so many vegan recipes do and I can’t drink it, it makes me break out! Truvia is my favorite no-calorie sweetener right now, so this is right up my alley. So refreshing and healthy! :)
Oh, and I forgot to mention– my favorite milkshake is a chocolate malt. ;)
Looks YUMMY! 8^)

So I just read this recipe over on FitFluential. I had seen it here but skimmed it… I’ve just got to say. Why did I never think to freeze my almond milk as ice cubes?! I hate that the ice cubes water down my smoothies. I feel so silly. I need to go invest in ice cube trays… Oh and make room in my freezer… On my list so far: Coconut milk, almond milk, Olive oil with spices, Coffee (for iced coffee). I need a lot of trays… Ha!
