What I’ve Been Eating on the Philosophie Cleanse (& recipe)

5
Jun

Guys, I’ve been loving this smoothie challenge so much.

And pairing it with the Philosophie Cleanse was the best thing ever.

If you think that doing a cleanse is too much work, or too hard…you obviously have not tried Sophie’s Philosophie Cleanse. I swear there is some sort of appetite suppressant in these superfoods…I’ve felt full the whole time. Honestly, I probably haven’t been Continue reading »

First Day of the Smoothie Challenge

1
Jun

If you are doing the challenge, this is a post you’ll want to read. I’m pumped about this month!

The giveaway widget is live and you can start adding your entries! I know some of you have shared the challenge via Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram already…and those posts are worth an entry! So grab the links for those if you want a few extra entries!

Remember, as the challenge goes on through the month, you don’t have search for the original challenge post to log in your entries, just go to the Colourful Smoothie Challenge page (see image below), and that’s it!

Challenge Page

Use the hashtag #colourfulsmoothie and tag me at @colourfulpalate – this handle works for Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram! I can’t wait to see your smoothies!

Yesterday I started my smoothie challenge early! Well kinda.

Smoothie Love

Personally, I see Booster Juice as way too much sugar (even if you get a more “natural” smoothie), but it’s a nice little last hurrah before I start my Philosophie cleanse and work on getting a lot more superfoods into my daily smoothie!

Here is your weekly challenge! (FYI, if you do the weekly challenges there is a surprise PRIZE you’ll be eligible for!)

So write down your THREE goals for this week! Put them somewhere you can see them (post-it notes are the best!) and go get ’em!

Write down your goals and then make them happen!

I’d love to hear some of your goals (and if you watched the video you know mine!), so comment below and tell me!

P.S. Just started Philosophie cleanse and can we just talk about the Cacao Magic smoothie?! It’s amazing! Thank you Sophie!

Keep up with the challenge and subscribe here!

Happy Summer! xo

What I’m Doing for Two Weeks of the Smoothie Challenge

May

I’m super looking forward to June, for a lot of reasons. Maybe because summer becomes official. Or one of my best friends is getting married. Or because of the dozens of smoothie recipes I’m excited to try…

…Or maybe it’s because I’m beginning to feel like myself again. I’m finding joy in creation, getting stronger, and learning more about the things I’m interested in. For the first time in almost four months, I did an Continue reading »

Top 3 Reasons to Consider Drybrushing

Top Three Reasons you Should Drybrush

The amount of drugs I have consumed since the accident is ridiculous. To say I’m not grateful for their effects would be completely untrue, but now, as I’m recovering…the holistic hippie in me shudders at the amount of drug toxins in me.

Besides the amount of assorted drugs I was prescribed for two weeks in hospital, I had to take narcotics galore afterwards. Not only that, but I took up to 8 extra-strength Tylenol daily to cope with the pain. I weaned myself off of them as soon as I felt able

However, part of my healing journey involves being as holistic as possible with recovery. I’ve been doing lots of things (you can read about them here) including changes in my diet and some “detoxing” practices.

I recently just started doing some research about drybrushing. I’ve had one for a while and I was mostly using it as way to exfoliate and keep my skin smooth, but the more I’ve been reading…the more impressed I am to use it for health reasons.

Why You Should Drybrush (Large)

Here are some things I’ve learned about drybrushing:

1. It detoxes and cleans the lymphatic system – Lymph is an enormous part of the immune system (we have more lymph than blood!). Lymph is full of lymphocytes (i.e. white blood cells) and interstitial fluid. These are the two elements that carry out waste and bring nutrition to the body. This is where the detoxification process FIRST takes place. When we drybrush we’re actually helping the lymph move and speeding up the process.

2. It allows your skin to breathe – the act of drybrushing literally opens your pores by the act of unblocking them. Honestly, it’s the most amazing thing – the more you do it, the more silky smooth and tight your skin gets! Nothing works better than shedding those dead skin cells! A lot of people say that it greatly reduces cellulite! As you get rid of dead skin cells, the new layer of skin underneath begins to surface. Your skin is your body’s largest organ, with that in mind a few minutes of a day can be spared.

3. It increases your circulation – this, in turn, encourages your body’s discharge of metabolic wastes and any other un-removed waste excreted (like when we sweat). Increased blood flow begins entering the areas brushed, which you can literally feel when you brush. For a lot of people, it’s an energizing morning ritual.

I used to be very dedicated with drybrushing, but I completely forgot about it (gasp)! So now, I’ve started again…

My Favourite Drybrush (Large)

This is the brush I use and highly recommend. It can be just a hand-held brush or you can slide the handle back in and use it for the hard to reach places like your back.

There is a bit of a science in the direction and order you brush, so check out How to Drybrush at MindBodyGreen.

Here’s to a healthy lymph and smooth skin!

Have you tried drybrushing? Any tips to share?

10 Top Reasons to Drink Lemon Water

I last talked about how I got rid of my un-classy caffeine addiction by replacing my morning coffee with hot lemon water. At first I started with hot lemon and honey, then I subbed out the honey for stevia, and now I’ve nixed the Continue reading »
