One of my favourite chocolates of all time are the ones that come out around Christmas. It’s those orange flavoured chocolates that are molded like an orange and come apart in sections. Not only do I get immense satisfaction from smashing the orange (so the sections come apart) before I devour it, but I think they are absolutely the yummiest thing ever.But then, you all know I’m crazed about chocolate.

I also love, love the essence of orange. (below: one of my new favourite teas!)

Orange flavoured everything is great…but like everything else, it’s always better with chocolate!

Chocolate Orange Protein Smoothie 008

So in honour of my favourite Christmas chocolate, I decided to make a protein shake to mimic that delicious Christmas chocolate flavours. Serves 1.

Chocolate Orange Protein Shake

  1. 1 cup ice
  2. ½ cup unsweetened almond milk
  3. 2 tbsp. orange juice concentrate
  4. 2 mandarin oranges
  5. 1 tbsp. cocoa
  6. 4 tbsp. hemp chocolate protein powder*
  7. 1 tbsp. orange flavoured fish oil (opt)

*You can use any chocolate flavoured protein powder – I used Nutiva chocolate hemp protein

Blend into submission. Stick a straw in and you’re good to go! The fish oil is totally optional…I just added it because I’m trying to get more of my healthy fats in, and it was orange flavoured oil anyway, so I couldn’t taste it.

Nutritional Info (excluding protein powder & supplements): Cals: 136, Fat: 2.5g, Sodium: 92mg, Carbs: 21g, Fiber: 7g, Sugars: 20g, Protein: 3.5g

I had this after a fantastic workout of 30 minutes of treadmill cardio and 30 minutes of a Nike workout off my iPod. Smoothies are just so refreshing post-workout and they’re amazing for recovery, especially if you have a bit of protein in there.

Today: I can’t believe that Christmas is in 17 days! I have so much shopping and Christmas projects that need to be tackled…it’s crazy! I don’t know how December filled up so quickly with events, appointments, concerts we have to do, and giant to-do lists! Somehow I’ll get it all done…
