Protein Fruit Rollups

How to make protein fruit roll ups

I think I’ve stumbled on something amazing. Really, I’m kind of surprised that I haven’t seen this in stores yet, unless I’m an oblivious grocery shopper.

These are protein fruit rollups…or, fruit leather, that are loaded with protein and high in a fresh, fruity flavour!

My creative juices started flowing when the people at ViSalus asked me to develop a unique recipe using their protein powder as part of their ’90 by 90’ recipe series. I’ve heard good things about the protein powder and I’m always excited to try new recipes, so I thought I’d give it a go.

Vi Shape Protein Powder

Organic Strawberries

I tried to come up with a way that protein powder isn’t typically used and this is what I came up with. It’s ridiculously simple – something you can make in literally less than 5 minutes. I’m excited to try it with different flavours/combinations of fruits now! This makes 4 good servings.

Protein Fruit Rollups

  1. 3 cups strawberries
  2. 4 heaping scoops of ViShape mix*

*You could use other protein powders, but the nutrition info will be different

Just blend up the strawberries with the protein powder. Spread it onto two dehydrator trays and let it dehydrate at 105 degrees (F) for about 16 (+/-) hours. If you over dry it, don’t worry…just mist it with water from a bottle and let it sit a few minutes.

This recipe is very low in saturated fat and very high in calcium, dietary fiber, manganese, magnesium, niacin, phosphorus, riboflavin, selenium, thiamin, vitamin A, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, vitamin C, vitamin E, zinc…sounds pretty good right?!

Protein Fruit Rollups for on the go

Pack in a baggie for an emergency snack! The cool thing about this recipe is that each serving of fruit rollups equal about the same as a protein shake!

  2. Jillienne @ ChasingRaspberries

Yum! These look delicious and are so creative! What type of food dehydrator do you have?

  3. Charissa

    Jillienne – It’s an Excalibur. :)

  4. Jennifer @ Peanut Butter and Peppers

Awesome idea! I wish I had a dehydrated, I would so make these right away!

  5. Jessica

I have been using Visalus for about a year and I love it. I am super excited to try this recipe :) :) I don’t have a dehydrator though. Wonder how long I’d have to put them in the over for and at what temp? Any suggestions?

  6. Foodpick

Great idea.Gotta try to make this one. :)

  7. shannonmarie (rawdorable)

I’ve never tried that protein, but I have made protein fruit roll ups in the past. I had forgotten all about them. I’ll have to try them again.

Is that nutrition info for all 4 servings? or for 1 of the 4 servings? kind of confusing…. and what’s the nutrition info for the new protein powder?
Besides that this recipe looks so cool! my family has been planning on getting a dehydrator this summer :)

  9. Tanya Phillips

    How cool is that?! :D

  10. Charissa

Jessica – You can let it dry in a warm over for about 6 or more hours. It should be dry to touch and yet will come off the the tray (lined with wax paper) when pulled.
Pryiya – It’s for 1 of 4 servings. The nutritional info for the protein powder is around 90 calories and 12 grams of protein per scoop…let me know if you need more info!

Those look amazing! Very creative! I need to invest in a food dehydrator some day. So many fun things you can make!

Is Vi-shape generally easily available in the supermarkets? The idea of fruit rollups is so imaginative I’d like to give the recipe a try. It’ll be my first go at something like a rollup. The kids might just like munching them. And those vitamins are great bonuses!

  13. Charissa

Alex – I think it’s more of an online product, however feel free to try any kind of protein powder instead & let me know how it goes! Your kids will love them!

  14. Shannon

If I put them in the oven for 6 hours, what temp should I use?

  15. Amber Cline

These look amazing. Can’t wait to try them. Thank you!!
