Submission Sites for Food Bloggers

Food Submission Sites for Bloggers

I remember when I first starting blogging there was so much I didn’t know (still so much actually). I had no clue how I could even get people to know my blog existed.
Then I discovered photo submission sites. I only really knew of a couple of them, but soon I started finding other sites which also started to boost my traffic.

So today I decided that I’d compile a list of photo submission sites, with the new food blogger in mind. When I started, I wished that someone had made this list (I even googled for it!) so I hope it helps at least a couple of you out. For those of you who aren’t bloggers, you might enjoy checking out these sites for new recipe ideas!

In my opinion, FoodGawker and TasteSpotting are the two best. However, they only accept the best quality of photos, rating your photos on composition, exposure, sharpness, and appeal. I also like FoodBuzz (you’ll need to sign up to use it – but it’s a valuable social media tool for networking as well!).

There are also some sites which have a certain classification (only healthy food, paleo, low carb, ect) so I’ll put these here:

HealthFreak – This is a Tumblr site that I love. In a nutshell, it’s just a collection of fantastic, healthy food. I submit photos here, but I also go there just to get new ideas for recipes. It’s also a great way to get the “Tumblr audience” onto you. Your recipe has the potential to get hundreds of notes and reposts.

Healthy Aperture – Once again, this site specialized in healthy eats.

BKFST – This Tumblr site specializes in delicious and esthetically pleasing breakfasts.

ChowStalker – I love this one. I’m trying to eat lower carb/higher protein and this site focuses on the Paleo, low carb, and caveman type diet. The photos on this site don’t have to be good, but I’m sure the moderators appreciate the ones that are!

DessertStalker – This is a sister site to ChowStalker, but obviously it focused on desserts for a paleo, low carb lifestyle.

PunchFork – Emphasized on healthy food, this site will also allow you to search for food according to diet lifestyle such as gluten free, vegan, vegetarian, and paleo.

CookBookKarma – This is exclusively for recipes that have been tried from any kind of cookbook.

Other food photo submission sites:

PhotoGrazing

FoodEpix

Tasteologie

Makes and Takes (spotlight)

Refrigerator Soup

I don’t use all these sites because it’s too time consuming, but they are a valuable tool – just make sure to use the sites that work best with your site’s message. Personally, as far as traffic goes, FoodGawker and TasteSpotting are the best. One of my recipes got noticed on TasteSpotting and FoodGawker and from there, it got pinned virally (on Pinterest) – think over 50,000 times!! Food submission sites can be very valuable.

Also, since I mentioned Pinterest – pin your food posts! I love getting recipes from other people on Pinterest and people like to get good recipe ideas from YOU too!

Any submission sites you’d like to add to this list?

Noticed some traffic coming from your post and wanted to stop by and thank you for the link-love! We’re honored to be included in your list. And you’re right, we feel like we have hit the jackpot when we get recipes that meet our guidelines and include a beautiful photo, but we’ll probably never reject one because of lighting and composure. :-)

I have another one for you that I really like (but am not associated with at all). Punk Domestics is a wonderful site for those that like to can, cure, preserve, etc. http://www.punkdomestics.com/

  25. Anna @ happycookinghealthyliving.com

Thank you for your tips. I just keep having my pics rejected from foodgawker… it can be very disartening :( any tips?

  26. Charissa

Anna – Keep trying! I think we’ve all been rejected a few times…I think as far as photography goes, cropping and lighting are the big thing. Natural lighting usually does the trick and I use a big window with diffused light. Also, with cropping, highlight the focused food/object without having it cropped too tight or by leaving too much room. Hope that helps!

  27. Richard

  32. Shiho

Thank you so much for the post. I have just started my Japanese food blog in July 2015. I had Tumblr account for a while but really did not know how to use it till I read your post on FBC. After I read this and submit my food photos some of the food submission account, page view per day increased dramatically from a few hundred a day to over 1500 a day. I know it is tiny but to me it is huge jump. Thank you so much.

  33. Charissa

Shiho – Oh, I’m so glad this article was helpful to you! I’ll have to check your blog out!

Any insights will be appreciated! Jay
