Staying Healthy when Life gets Crazy

Lately life has been a bit nuts for me (hence the lack of weekly posts). I’m in the middle of midterm exams, appointments, work deadlines, and a boatload of other commitments.

So I thought today I’d go over some of the things that keep me healthy and energized when life is full of stress, deadlines, and appointments. I know life can get crazy for all of us, so I hope these tips will help you stay healthy and fit when you don’t have a lot of time.

Take your Vitamins

Take your Vitamins

Seriously, when you’re always on the go your immune system can get run down. Taking a multivitamin or some extra superfoods might be enough to give your system that extra boost! I take spirulina and vitamin C daily. On days I don’t get sunshine I also take vitamin D.

Eat a Healthy Breakfast

I know that it can be hard to get that meal in when you’re trying to rush out the door, but it’s important! If I don’t start my day off with a nutritional boost I simply don’t have the brain fuel for classes or the physical strength to keep going (seriously, I feel faint or nauseous if I skip breakfast!). Maybe some of you don’t even notice if you eat breakfast or not, but it’s still vital because that’s what kickstarts your metabolism.

Peach Protein Oatmeal

Maybe you’ll be more inclined to eat breakfast if you wake up to this bowl of goodness – Peaches N’ Cream High Protein Oatmeal.

Use a Meal Supplement

Don’t you dare skip that meal! Seriously. When things get extra crazy I just have to grab my shake n’ go tumbler with a scoop of protein and run. You should do the same!

Vega One French Vanilla

Vega just sent me their newest flavour of Vega One (French Vanilla) and it is fabulous! It’s got 15 grams of plant based protein for only 135 calories (50% daily vitamins and minerals)! It’s low in fat, high in fibre, low in sugar, low in sodium, and includes healthy fats. Not only that, it has probiotics, greens, antioxidants, omega 3s, digestive enzymes, and a blend of amazing vitamins and minerals. If you’re going for a nutritious breakfast in a bottle, you can’t get much better!

This is just one yummy way to make my life that much easier when life is a little wild. I love that it is dairy, gluten, and soy free! Thanks Vega – you know I’m nuts about all your products! Everything about them is amaaazing – it’s like instant energy!

I love Vega

Fit in Mini Workouts

There are days where you don’t have time for anything but a fast workout. You could always do my quick ab routine (below) for a quick one or else just go for a 2 mile sprint (less than 20 minutes).

Amazing Ab Workout

You also might want to check out my post about ways to get fit without trying – things like tightening your abs while you drive or taking the stairs DO make a difference! Something is always better than nothing!

Drink Water

Drink Your Water

You need to be drinking half your weight in ounces EVERY day (here’s why)! ‘Nuff said.

Pack Snacks

It’s a common known fact you won’t be as apt to make a bad food choice if you have something healthy  packed. I always try to pack snacks because when I’m hungry it’s easy for me to grab anything (usually not healthy!) just because I feel like I’ll die if I don’t (yes, I’m a drama queen).

Trail Mix

(Healthy Trail Mix)

Hope you enjoyed these tips! I’d LOVE to hear if you have any tips on staying healthy and fit when you’re on the go. Please share them in the comments!

These are some great tips! I love vega as a protein because it has so much in it other than just protein! It’s awesome!

  2. heidi kokborg

Thanks for the tips! :) I always bring snacks with me to make sure that I will have something to eat if I get hungry!

  3. Angela @ The Chicken Scoop

I always pack tons of snacks in my bookbag, purse, etc. My classmates make fun of me until they are complaining about hunger pains as I munch on my apple. And I agree about the breakfast thing! So important!

PS. Thanks for reminding me I forgot to take my multi this morning :)

  4. Leonor @FoodFaithFitness

I do all of the above!

  5. Meredith @ Dare You to

I’m so in the same boat as you right now. Between work and midterms and papers, sometimes I’m running on empty. Personally, I always wake with enough time for a solid breakfast, and I really agree with your water and vitamins comments. The only thing I’d add is SLEEP! As much as we can fit in :)

  6. TriGirl

I’m very consistent about breakfast and water. Not doing so well on most of the others right now, so I appreciate the reminder and the pep talk!

  7. Debbie @ Live from La Quinta

Great tips. I never miss a meal so I don’t use a meal supplement. When my life gets crazy, I try to schedule workouts and treat them like an appointment that can’t be broken.

  8. Jill @ Fitness, Health and Happiness

You pretty much described my life. Crazy busy, vitamins, oatmeal, snacks Vega, mini workouts, water….

  9. MCM Mama

I make sure I always have water and almonds with me. I’m not a shake girl, so I have to keep easy to grab food at the ready: fruit, cheese sticks, nuts, etc…

    Great tips!

  10. Danielle @ Itsaharleyyylife

i’m not a big vitamin/supplement person but I do the rest of them! great tips! (:
