Cheesy Movie Popcorn

Cheesy Popcorn 01

There’s a few things I am addicted to. Chocolate, of course. Pancakes are number two on my favourite things list.

Then there’s popcorn…oh my…I love, love, love it. I like the satisfying crunch, the melt in your mouth texture of the kernels, the salt, the variety of flavours to choose from, and…well, everything about it. Nowadays movie style popcorn can be well over 1,000 calories per serving, which is a crazy amount. It’s also very high in trans fats, fake flavours, artificial colours, and sodium. I can go without all of that.

My new favourite is this recipe from my sister-in-law…and FYI, it is very possible to sneak in a big bag of this to the movie theater (just use a big purse and don’t tell anyone it was my idea). Serves 4-6

Cheesy Movie Popcorn

  1. 7-9 cups popcorn
  2. 2 tablespoons butter
  3. Salt, to taste
  4. Cheddar cheese, shredded

Melt the butter in a saucepan until melted. Drizzle over popcorn and mix well. Add salt.

Place the popcorn on a parchment lined baking sheet. Top evenly with shredded cheese to the amount you desire.

Bake in the oven at 200-250 degrees until the cheese is melted. Serve immediately and try not to be a pig.

You know you want some!

Bonus recipe (for the ones with a sweet tooth):

Sweetly Cinnamon Popcorn

  1. 6-8 cups popcorn
  2. 1/4 – 1/3 cup butter
  3. Organic sugar, to taste
  4. Cinnamon, to taste

Melt the butter in a saucepan. Drizzle over popcorn and mix well.

Sprinkle organic sugar and cinnamon over the popcorn to taste.

You might also want to check out my healthy “Caramel” popcorn recipe. Now go enjoy a movie with some friends!

I recently saw “War Horse”, which is such a sweet movie, but WHY do animal movie always have to be so sad? Seriously. The animal (horse, dog…whatever) always get separated from their owner and finally find their way home. Can’t we be more creative? Anyway, I actually really liked it and it was extremely well done…I just gravitate to more happy or action type movies.

Are you a popcorn lover? What are some good movies you’ve seen lately?

There has definitely been a lot of popcorn in this house lately. Yum! My mom does the purse trick, too. She actually has one designated as her movie theater popcorn purse. It’s only used for smuggling in popcorn.

I assume you are referring to popped corn? Either way, I like your presentation and congratulations on making the foodbuzz Top 9!

I haven’t seen War Horse. It’s so true, animal movies are so sad! I’ve never had cheesy popcorn. My kids would love this.

Yum!!! My hubs and I recently went to see Dark Shadows at the movies. It was a nice date night! I do typically make popcorn at home though in my air popper (or microwave). I add some oil spray and seasoning to it for kick. My favorite is adding Adobo seasoning!

Love the concept, was left looking for the instructions for “first, you pop the corn and then….” Yes?? I”m usually pretty inventive with cooking and have a rep for turning out good stuff, but.. this may be my super”DUH”, day. Been baking biscottis for two days and my brain is overbaked. thanks.
