Superbowl Dinner and Snack Ideas

I’ve never been into football before. However, this year, one of my goals was to learn more about sports I wasn’t familiar with…like tennis, soccer, and football.

So now I’m really curious about football. I like to hear the scores and learn some of the rules. It’s kind of fun…

Anyway, this post isn’t about the sport…it’s all about the food!

So what are some healthy options for game day?

Chips, salsa, and dip are always a winner…why not place some protein-packed hummus next to the salsa dish this year? This hummus has a pronounced middle-eastern flavour, thanks to the addition of garam masala (I love this spice!).

Easy Peasy Hummus 01

Instead of chips that get fried to death, get baked tortilla chips to dunk into the hummus and salsa.

For dinner, maybe you’re a fan of chili…if so, you better try this recipe!

Best Ever Vegan Chili 01

I have had a lot of chili in my lifetime, but this recipe takes the cake! I have never ever had such good chili in my existence. If you’re vegetarian, it’s perfect as is (the guys won’t even miss the meat!)…however, if you like meat in it…simply add some cooked ground beef or turkey into the mix and you’re all set to go! I’ve tried the recipe both ways and it’s just delectable.

What are some other great (but healthy) snack ideas for munching during the game?

Popcorn! This is one of my favourite snack foods in the world. You can season it anyway you like…butter and salt…or go crazy with all the fun seasoning out there (my favourite is ketchup!)…or maybe you’ll want to try this recipe (pictured below). It’s a faux-caramel, sticky-sweet recipe that doesn’t have any sugar in it! This is one of my niece’s favourite recipes.

Sticky Date Popcorn 01

Shrimp with tomato sauce – this is high-protein and low calorie.

Apples with “Caramel Dip” – this recipe is highly rated over at our house. We make it all the time! It tastes like it should be bad for you, but it’s not! If you make this, make sure to cut lots of apples to dip it in, because this makes us eat apples like nothing else!

Apple Dip 01

Strawberries with chocolate dip – You could melt some dark chocolate chips and dip half of the strawberry in it. Put a tray of dipped strawberries in the freezer to harder. These taste decadent!

Peanut Butter Freezer Cookies – These are probably one of my favourite cookies. I love them served cold, straight from the freezer…but the rest of the world probably would like them thawed out a little. You just can’t go wrong with peanut butter!

Peanut Butter Odies 01

Hope you enjoyed some of these quick, healthy ideas for game day!

Do you enjoy football? What are some of your favourite TV snacks?

I don’t watch football, but I do eat peanut butter! Those cookies are being made! Haha :)

    Love the ideas. :)

Yum-I like the variety here, some savory and some sweet! Not that much into football, but superbowl is a good excuse to have some tasty food and a get together. I seriously think I enjoy the commercials more than the game. Out of all the items above, I would say the freezer cookies are my pick. Thanks for the links and enjoy the weekend!

I have never watched American football and oh, do I know nothing about the rules (the emphasis on American is crucial for me as being a European, football will always be the sport you call soccer). Amusingly, I always hear and read more about the food people stuff into their faces while watching than the sport itself. ;)

And I have to say, your options sound way, WAY more healthy than anything I have heard of but just as delicious! Way to go!

TOUCHDOOOWN!! (That’s a football term, right? Right?) ;)

    Cheers,
    Tobias

I’m not really a football fan, but I always watch the Super Bowl (mainly for the commercials). I like your snack idea. I actually made some raw cupcakes in honor of the big game.

I couldn’t care less about the game, but I LOVE game food! I’m a big fan of a nice fruit salsa with pita chips – I get to eat something I love without feeling guilty afterwards.
