Goals for 2012

Shoot for the Moon

It’s January 13 and we still haven’t taken our Christmas décor down. Really.

We felt that Christmas holidays went by so fast this year that we needed to keep the tree and the lights up just a little longer. So we did, but today is the day they all come down and get packed away for another year.

Thankfully, there are other things I’m more on top of. I got my goals for this next year all written around Christmas. I think it’s so important to set goals of things you want to accomplish or get better at each year.

My list is always very long (with room at the bottom to add more later!), so I thought I’d share 5 of my top goals from that list!

1.Wake up earlier and go to bed earlier – actually stick to a schedule

I come from a family of night owls and all of us get energy late at night, which makes it hard to wind down. All the same, I’m working on it. So far, I’ve got the getting up early part pretty good, but I still go to bed really late. This is making me even more tired. I have beautiful, dark half-moons under my eyes. I can tell this will be one will be hard work!

A Tired Kind of Happy 01

(the things I doodle late at night…haha)

2. Spend quality time with the Lord in the morning

I try to spend time with God every day, but I would like to spend more time doing that. I feel so much more refreshed and ready to take on the day when I’ve had a good chat with the Lord! I’d like to journal more and read devotional books to encourage me in my walk with God.

3. Be a good student with good grades!

NEWS!!!! It’s kind of crazy, but I’ve decided that I’m going to college in the fall! It’s been years since I’ve been in school, so it’s an adjustment, but I’m looking forward to it! Can you guess what I’m taking? Exercise Science! Eventually, when college is over I’ll end up as a certified personal trainer! I’m so blessed to be pursuing a passion of mine! I’ve actually started courses now with distance learning, so it’s super odd to be studying again!

P.S. For that reason, posting might not be as regular, but I’ll do my best to keep up with it!

4. Run a midnight race

There’s a 10k that I’ve wanted to do for ages…and it’s done in the dark! How fun is that? I’m going to hopefully run it in March with two of my brothers. After that, I’m not necessarily going to go crazy with running…I’m really enjoying doing more strength training these days.

5. Spend money on necessities only

Now that I’m saving for school, I’ve decided I’m not buying things unless I need to. So basically, I’m eliminating lots of my “wants”. No more dark chocolate bars, iTunes, clothes, and magazines, ect. This has been hard, but I’m proud to say that since last November the only thing I’ve bought myself selfishly was a chocolate bar and gum, which totaled to 1.50. I’m now becoming a close-fisted and penny-pinching hoarder. What hurts the most is iTunes…I need new music.

So there…those are a few of my goals. I’d love to hear more about what goals you set for yourself this year!

Great goals! I love number2 because I set the same one for myself in a way. I want to set aside time in the morning to write in my prayer journal, read his word and pray :) Happy Friday!

  2. shannonmarie (rawdorable)

I usually leave them up a while, but this year, Hayden kept making running off with all the ornaments and trying to climb the tree. Therefore, we took them down for new years.

  3. Katie

Amazing goals! I need the more sleep one too ; )

CONGRATS on going back to school, I wish you the best of luck girl!

  4. Ali

Congrats on making the decision to go back to school! I had the same major in Undergrad, and loved it since I had a passion for what I was learning. Also, the information is very applicable to utilizing while you are learning. Let me know if you have any questions along they way…. I might actually have some textbooks you could use as well ;)…..

Wow, that is so exciting! Congrats! I’m jealous… but seriously can’t wait to hear about all the stuff you are learning!

  6. Leonor @FoodFaithFitness

Congrats on pursuing your goals! As a former night owl, I find that I am more productive if I go to bed earlier, not later. It helps me get my workouts in, and be in the Word everyday!

  7. Julie

I’m like you and if we’ve bought a real christmas tree, keep them up for as long as the tree will survive! I love your goals for 2012. I’m working on the schedule thing too and its tough. Good luck!

I went back to school last semester! Good luck to you! It was a big adjustment for me too since I was out of school for 7 years or something along those lines. But, I got back into the swing of things pretty quickly (reading for classes, doing homework, writing essays…)

Excellent goals. I hope you’re having success with sticking to them. I’m also trying to be more regular about spending time with God. I just read Crazy Love and it’s forcing me to rethink how I prioritize my life ( your #5 goal would fit well here). Keep it up!
