Something Crazy

Marathon 03

Guess what? I have a secret…but I’m going to tell you anyway. I haven’t even told a lot of my friends yet…maybe I’m too nervous! I bought these new shoes for training for a special race. And no, the fact that I have new shoes is not my secret. It’s what race I’m running.

Maybe I’ll just give you the inside scoop and show you one of my journal entries. You should feel special…not many people get to see inside my diary. *grin*

Marathon 01

Marathon 02

Isn’t that crazy?! I’m going to run a marathon…26.2 flipping miles! I’m still in a state of shock that I actually signed up to do this. I feel like I’m half excitement and half nerves. Thoughts like “I wonder if I should be doing this” or “I might be going in over my head” come into my head. But then I excuse them and realize that I CAN DO THIS. Really. Maybe I won’t have the “perfect” time or have a personal best, but whether I come out crawling or half dead I will finish. I’m not a quitter.

My racing life consists of a 5k and two half marathons. I ran my first half marathon a couple years ago with a time of 2:19. I hadn’t had enough time to train properly for that one, so I had to walk quite a bit. But I didn’t care, because my goal was simply to finish. This is me before the race, not knowing what to expect…so I’m looking very cheerful…with bangs (ah, so glad I got rid of those!) I asked one of my little nieces if she thought this was me and she said, “No, you look funny.” Guess she doesn’t like the bangs either!

Half Marathon 01

Last year I decided to run another half marathon with my three brothers. My goal was to not stop and walk (except for a couple guzzles of water). I wanted to run the whole thing without a pause, which I did. I hoped to beat the time of the year before, but I actually exceeded it by 6 minutes, which was surprising to me because I never stopped running. But it was an awesome race, and it was funny…before that half marathon I had never cared too much about long-distance running…but suddenly, during that race I found out that I actually do love it! After that race, I wrote in my journal that I wanted to run a real marathon. It felt like a crazy pipe dream.

Half Marathon 02

And it is a crazy thought…but I’ve signed up for it anyway and I’m going to run it!  I’m doing the training whenever I can squeeze it in. I lead an extremely busy life so it’s been a challenge to fit things in, but I’m doing my best.

Cheer me on! If you want to keep up with the latest update on my marathon training and blog posts, you can subscribe to my feed!

Have you ever run a race? If so, how far was it? For any of you marathoners out there, do you have any helpful, long-distance running tips?

Cute blog! I’m glad you came by mine today so I could come by yours.

I did my first half marathon last year, and while I enjoyed it, I’m not sure I could ever really do a full. I give you tons of credit — good luck! I’m currently training for a 10 mile in May…we’ll see what I decide to sign up for once that’s over! All the best.

I’m supposed to run a 1/2 in May but I’m too scared to commit! I’m planning to use the “I’m too busy with other stuff to train properly” excuse. I don’t know if my fellow running mates will accept that excuse tho….so I need tips too! I’m wondering if I can get away without training! LOL

Nadia~ Thanks girl! Appreciate all the cheering I can get, lol.

Fresh and Foodie~ I bet you could…I have this idea in my head that once you’re a runner you can do anything.

Biren~ Thanks! Haha, I need it!

Tricia~ Hey, you can totally do it! I totally believe in you! My first half I didn’t train properly at all…and I even had a good time! You can do it.
