Creative Wishes…

Creativity 01

Over the last couple weeks we’ve had 18 nephews and nieces at our home (Yes, that’s a lot. That’s what happens when you’re from a family of seven children!). I don’t see a lot of them very often, so it was really special to get to know each one of them a little better. I marvel at the gifts of creativity God has given them.

Creativity 03

(just look at those chubby cheeks – it’s just TOO much cuteness!)

While they were here…there was a lot of dancing in the living room, colouring, plays performed, dressing up, drawing, play dough, go-kart racing, foosball, and make believe. It feels really quiet in our house now that they’ve gone home.

Play Dough 01

(scented playdough recipe)

There’s something about creating that is really special. It’s satisfying and even healing. There has been times in my life where I just needed to songwrite or journal. I love writing…my journals are like super fat scrapbooks and will always be special.

Journaling 01

Painting is another passion of mine, it’s something I haven’t had a lot of time for lately…but it’s like magic when the painting starts coming together.

Art Challenge 01

Once in a while, I’ll go to CraftGawker and if you ever want to be inspired…that’s the place. I wish I didn’t ever need to sleep, if that were the case, I’d spend all my time learning how to be more creative. There are so many things I still want to learn…

I’d love to be able to sew and actually like it. Or maybe actually crochet something besides warp-shaped dish cloths. Something I really want to learn is how to make jewelry. I have some friends (& a niece) who are incredibly skilled at it and it’s amazing how, with the right materials, they make works of art that looks like it came from a designer shop.

Another site that makes me want to be more creative is A Beautiful Mess. I discovered this blog ages ago and I’ve been a diehard fan since. Don’t forget to check out those sites – and prepare to be inspired!

Inspire me 01

What creative art do you want to try? What’s a site that inspires you?

The Geek Girl Crafts podcast (geekgirlcraftspodcast.blogspot.com) inspired me to start knitting. I made a scarf for my nephew, but finished it too late for him to wear this year, so I intend to give it to him next winter. And I’m “in the process” and have been for the last 8 months, lol) of making my first hat. I enjoy how easy and therapeutic it is to knit, since I can do it whenever, just watching TV or watching the kiddoes play, but it also takes a LONG time to finish a project, and I am not a patient person, so I tend to drop and take up a project several times before I finish something.
By the way, I’ve read your blog before, but this is the first time I’m commenting. LOVE it! Keep it up!

Man – I feel the need to find my creative side once again…I used to stamp cards and was on design teams, but I honestly just like to sit and color with my kids sometimes!

I am trying to keep up with my scrapbooking, which I can’t find the time to do. I love being creative. DH is an artist, and I wish I had that kind of creativity. I have over 30 nieces and nephews, so I know what you mean about a full house!

Wow, you’re talented! I, on the other hand, am not crafty or artsy in anyway.

I think journaling is so great! Once it is written down, and especially if you’re adding photos and mementos, you can always look back and have the memories refreshed.

The kids are so cute :-)

Love that you are showing more of your artwork again. You are so talented.

I agree with you about A Beautiful Mess. It is a very inspiring site.

I believe all kids are born creative…unfortunately life situations can totally put boxes around people and all creative juices are drained!

ooo i love the signature at the end of your posts! i just noticed it. i too wish i could be more creative and had more time to get lost in creativity and do more “artsy” things. at least i have my blogging – i even feel a bit artsy when i’m instagramming a photo or editing it on my computer :) and framing a shot for photography. but i’d love to crotchet too, or do needlework.
