It concerns my dreadful mid-afternoon cravings for something sweet. Come on, don\u2019t make me feel alone and pretend that your sweet tooth doesn\u2019t ever kick in. If we all just admit that the four-year old in all of us likes sweet things, we\u2019ll all come out of denial and be so much the happier<!--more-->. \u2026.Okay, maybe there are some of us that have no sweet teeth and eat broccoli every meal, but that is not me. It\u2019s something I\u2019m constantly fighting\u2026okay\u2026giving in to.<\/p>\n<p>BUT\u2026there is a happy medium. I may give into something sweet, but it\u2019s not necessarily bad. The trick is to be prepared when those cravings come and swap a sugary craving for a healthy, SWEET craving. It\u2019s all about substitution. I don&#8217;t like to be all about self-deprivation when it comes to food. With me, it ultimately back fires&#8230;once I start telling myself I can&#8217;t have something that&#8217;s<em> all <\/em>I want. Ridiculous, I know.<\/p>\n<p>There are so many things we can use to substitute our naughty cravings. Say, dark chocolate over milk chocolate. A thick, chocolate smoothie over a milkshake. A baked apple with cinnamon instead of apple pie.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026And instead of hot chocolate\u2026Hot Vanilla Milk! This is my new secret! It\u2019s super low in calories, healthy, vegan, and tastes sweet! It\u2019s something that I can just sip and savour slowly; instead of just popping a chocolate in my mouth\u2026I\u2019m in love with it! Serves 1.<\/p>\n<p>So without further ado\u2026<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"recipeTitle\">Hot Vanilla Milk<\/h2>\n<ol class=\"recipe\">\n<li>1 cup almond milk*<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp. agave nectar<\/li>\n<li>\u00bd tsp. pure vanilla essence<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>*I used my homemade almond milk, but I\u2019m sure it would be fine with <a title=\"Almond Milk\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B004LL7GHO\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B004LL7GHO&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=coloupalat-20\" target=\"_blank\">store bought<\/a>. Just know<a title=\"How to make Almond Milk\" href=\"https:\/\/www.colourfulpalate.com\/2011\/05\/21\/how-to-make-almond-milk\/\" target=\"_blank\"> I used this recipe<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>Steam all the ingredients over medium on the stove. Bring to a light boil, beating it briskly with as small whisk so that the milk gets foamy. Garnish with a little nutmeg, cocoa, or cinnamon and there you have it. Instant. Sweet.
