Putting the green smoothies, coconut oil, and hempseeds on pause and indulging in carb-filled butter croissants, sugar filled cranberry sauce, and double servings of creamy mashed potatoes. Yes please!<\/p>\n<p>For real though, I think it&#8217;s actually important NOT to eat perfectly all the time. Food is to nourish our bodies, yes&#8230;but it&#8217;s also for celebration, community, and frivolous and unabashed enjoyment. Does it do my body any favours? I don&#8217;t know, but since I always feel a little sick after feasting&#8230;probably not. However, let&#8217;s be honest, it&#8217;s probably because I stuff myself silly for the joy of holidays. No regrets.<\/p>\n<p>So with that preamble, let me present to you an appetizer that is not low carb like my usual recipes, but is absolutely delicious (and high in protein!) &#8211; very worth splurging on. Before I made these, I picked up the Pillsbury\u2122 Flaky Rolls at a Lethbridge Safeway and let my brain explore the possibilities. I like that there&#8217;s so much that you can do with the dough, it doesn&#8217;t have to be what the package says. Plus, it&#8217;s super easy to work with. I decided to make my Parmesan meatballs and cover them with Pillsbury dough, almost like mini hamburgers.<\/p>\n<p>I ate these dipped in marinara sauce and it was delicious. A great appetizer (or side dish!) for all these holiday parties coming our way &#8211; a yummy appetizer to make some festive memories over! Makes 20 rolls.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-6278\" alt=\"Fluffy Meatball Rolls for a Holiday Appetizer\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colourfulpalate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Fluffy-Meatball-Rolls-for-a-Holiday-Appetizer-510x340.jpg\" width=\"510\" height=\"340\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colourfulpalate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Fluffy-Meatball-Rolls-for-a-Holiday-Appetizer-510x340.jpg 510w, https:\/\/www.colourfulpalate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Fluffy-Meatball-Rolls-for-a-Holiday-Appetizer-1024x682.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 510px) 100vw, 510px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"recipeTitle\">Fluffy Meatball Rolls<\/h2>\n<ol class=\"recipe\">\n<li>2 lbs lean ground beef<\/li>\n<li>2 eggs<\/li>\n<li>3 rice cakes, ground*<\/li>\n<li>2\/3 cup Parmesan<\/li>\n<li>2 tsp. garlic, minced<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp. parsley<\/li>\n<li>1-1\/2 tsp. sea salt<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp. oregano<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp. basil<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp. onion powder<\/li>\n<li>2 tubes Pillsbury Flaky Rolls<i><br \/>\n<\/i><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><i>*I just stuck the rice cakes in a blender and ground them to a flour.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Mix everything together, except the dough. I just used my hands to make sure everything was mixed well (don&#8217;t forget to wash them!). Make balls out of the mixture (there will probably be a few extra meatballs that don&#8217;t get turned into a bun!), place on a parchment lined baking sheet, and bake at 350 degrees for about 20 min.<\/p>\n<p>Let meatballs cool for about 10 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Open your 2 tubes of Pillsbury Flaky Roll dough.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-6281\" alt=\"Pillsbury Flaky Rolls Recipes\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colourfulpalate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Pillsbury-Flaky-Rolls-Recipes-510x340.jpg\" width=\"510\" height=\"340\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colourfulpalate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Pillsbury-Flaky-Rolls-Recipes-510x340.jpg 510w, https:\/\/www.colourfulpalate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Pillsbury-Flaky-Rolls-Recipes-1024x682.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 510px) 100vw, 510px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Each tube will come pre-sliced in 10 pieces each. Take each piece and place a meatball in the center. Pull up opposite sides and stick dough together (see picture below). This makes a &#8220;pillow&#8221; shaped bun.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-6279\" alt=\"How to make Pillow Shaped Buns\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colourfulpalate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/How-to-make-Pillow-Shaped-Buns-510x340.jpg\" width=\"510\" height=\"340\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colourfulpalate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/How-to-make-Pillow-Shaped-Buns-510x340.jpg 510w, https:\/\/www.colourfulpalate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/How-to-make-Pillow-Shaped-Buns-1024x682.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 510px) 100vw, 510px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Brush the tops of the buns with a little oil (I just used a little fat that was lying on the just-baked meatball tray) and sprinkle some parsley on top.<\/p>\n<p>Bake for about 15 minutes&#8230;perhaps a little more or less, depending on your oven. They&#8217;re best served warm.
