I\u2019ve moved back to the city and Wednesday was my first day back at the Exercise Science program. It feels strange to be back\u2026but it\u2019s good. I haven\u2019t been around much on the internet, because not only has it been busy getting my little self organized, but I haven\u2019t had internet (and sadly, still don\u2019t!), so it\u2019s been just snatches here<!--more--> and there. This Wednesday, a guy is coming in to finally install whatever it is that needs installing.<\/p>\n<p>During that time, I\u2019ve also got a job working front desk at a gym\u2026so while it\u2019s fun and I\u2019m thankful to God for the extra income, it\u2019s been a bit busier. They\u2019re short staffed right now, so I\u2019ve got more hours than I was originally planning on, but it\u2019s all good. I\u2019m excited too (as obviously noted below).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-4919\" alt=\"Golds Gym\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colourfulpalate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Golds-Gym-510x510.jpg\" width=\"510\" height=\"510\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colourfulpalate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Golds-Gym-510x510.jpg 510w, https:\/\/www.colourfulpalate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Golds-Gym-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.colourfulpalate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Golds-Gym-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.colourfulpalate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Golds-Gym.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 510px) 100vw, 510px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I feel like I\u2019ve learned a lot, even since last semester, about nutrition and keeping yourself healthy\/fit when you\u2019re busy. I\u2019ve actually lost some weight since then, as well\u2026so I\u2019m keen on keeping it off. That being the case, I wanted to share some tips and tricks that I\u2019ve been doing the last several months and things I plan on doing to keep myself healthy (and keep from added weight).<\/p>\n<p><b>1. Protein in the centre of my meals.<\/b> I either eat it with carbs or with healthy fats. I\u2019m very sugar conscious and keep my diet on a lower glycemic side. I eat very similar to <a title=\"THM\" href=\"https:\/\/www.colourfulpalate.com\/2013\/06\/03\/chocolate-muffin-a-mug\/\" target=\"_blank\">this book\u2019s philosophy<\/a>. I&#8217;m sure I&#8217;ll do posts on this in the future.<\/p>\n<p><b>2. Reduced the amount of grains on my plate.<\/b> This also is because of my low sugar approach. I\u2019m a big fan of quinoa and high-fibre breads, flatbreads, and wraps though!<\/p>\n<p><b>3. Drink a crazy amount of herbal tea\/water.<\/b> This will not only keep you feeling full, but it keeps you hydrated and keeps those stress headaches at bay. Green tea, yerba mate, and oolong tea are my current favourites\u2026chilled or hot, they\u2019re fabulous. For extra yum, I often add a little <a title=\"NuNaturals stevia\" href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/Se35oW\" target=\"_blank\">NuNaturals stevia<\/a> and some almond milk.<\/p>\n<p><b>4. Play outdoors as much as possible.<\/b> I spent a lot of my summer playing volleyball and doing some running. There\u2019s something about fresh air while you work out\u2026it\u2019s just fun!<\/p>\n<p>As for plans for keeping fit\/healthy this semester, here is what\u2019s going down:<\/p>\n<p><b>5. Meal planning.<\/b> Yup. This is happening. I\u2019m used to doing life freestyle, but I think this time, I need to get myself together and plan for the week (look forward to some posts about this). After I plan my week, then I write a grocery list and then get the items on that list. Not only does it save money, but it keeps you stuck to the healthy stuff you\u2019re are planning on eating. No waste.<\/p>\n<p><b>6. Meal prep.<\/b> This definitely comes next. Make up all those lunches and snacks and refrigerate them (even label them for certain days). All in all, it saves time, but also keeps you completely on track with your diet. Just don\u2019t forget to pack it!<\/p>\n<p><b>7. Biking and walking.<\/b> I live really close to grocery stores, my work, and my college\u2026so I\u2019m mostly walking or biking to all those places. All that activity adds up\u2026and while we\u2019re on the subject, run up those school stairs\u2026don\u2019t just walk. Make it all count. When you don\u2019t need to sit, stand.<\/p>\n<p><b>8. Study while you workout.<\/b> It doesn\u2019t have to be hardcore. Just walk on the treadmill or cycle slowly on a stationary bike while you\u2019re reading your notes. Sometimes I record my lecture notes on my iPod and then listen to them while I walk to class.<\/p>\n<p><b>9. Try not to eat too much before bed.<\/b> This is something I will always work at. I can\u2019t stand being hungry, so if I\u2019m hungry before bed I WILL eat\u2026but I&#8217;m more talking about the mindless snacking that we can say bye too. Or at least replace that with raw veggies, plain yogurt, or tea.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s some of my tips!
