Happy New Year! I\u2019m so excited about what 2012 will bring! I\u2019m sorry I wasn&#8217;t back sooner, but with all the family time, our home reno project, and getting sick (I\u2019m all better now!) I didn&#8217;t want to rush into it.<\/p>\n<p>Since it\u2019s the New Year now <em>and<\/em> <!--more-->Motivational Monday I thought I\u2019d do a post about healthy weight loss. I don\u2019t normally blog about this sort of thing\u2026but I thought it\u2019d be appropriate since its early January and I\u2019m certain a lot of us might have \u201close 5 pounds\u201d on our to-do lists.<\/p>\n<p>When I got back from <a title=\"Going on the Road\" href=\"https:\/\/www.colourfulpalate.com\/2011\/09\/19\/going-on-the-road\/\" target=\"_blank\">my two-month trip<\/a> in the fall, I stepped on the weigh scale to see how much I gained from weeks and weeks of eating in other people\u2019s homes, hotels, and restaurants. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I had only gained 3 lbs. Even though it\u2019s not that much, I like to get those extra pounds off as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<p>So I devised a plan. No carbs, tons of veggies, 1-2 pieces of fruit daily (no more), lots of protein, less salt, and no sugar. It\u2019s really not rocket science. None of us really should be having much sugar anyway. I still had butter on my veggies and olive oil on my salad (<a title=\"The Importance of Healthy Fats\" href=\"https:\/\/www.colourfulpalate.com\/2011\/12\/12\/my-experience-with-healthy-fats-dreamy-chocolate-avocado-pudding\/\" target=\"_blank\">you need your healthy fats<\/a>!), so food was still flavourful. The hard part was no toast. It was so delicious! I made it with sauteed mushrooms and onions, vegan cheddar cheese, homemade tomato dressing, spinach, romaine, snap peas, and organic corn chips. When I&#8217;m nixing carbs, I just skip the corn chips.)<\/p>\n<p>Seriously, it was really easy. I didn&#8217;t have any time to really work out that week either\u2026so I was very shocked to see that I had lost 4lbs only 6 days later. Pain free.<\/p>\n<p>Weight loss should always be healthy!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1792\" title=\"Eggs 01\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colourfulpalate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Eggs-01-510x301.jpg\" alt=\"Eggs 01\" width=\"510\" height=\"301\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colourfulpalate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Eggs-01-510x301.jpg 510w, https:\/\/www.colourfulpalate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Eggs-01-1024x604.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.colourfulpalate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Eggs-01.jpg 1829w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 510px) 100vw, 510px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>(Organic eggs are a wonderful source of protein! I eat them almost every day!)<\/p>\n<p>So here\u2019s the rundown of what I did!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Unlimited veggies<\/li>\n<li>1-2 pieces of fruit daily<\/li>\n<li>No sugar of any kind<\/li>\n<li>No carbs (like bread, pasta, ect)<\/li>\n<li>Lots of protein<\/li>\n<li>A little healthy fat at each meal<\/li>\n<li>Stop eating after dinner or 3 hours before bed<\/li>\n<li>Drink lots of water<\/li>\n<li>Less salt<\/li>\n<li>Eat as much raw as possible<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Speaking of RAW FOOD\u2026.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Since it\u2019s still the beginning of January, I\u2019m sure a lot of us are trying to clean up our diets and working more diligently on our New Year Goals. Personally, I&#8217;ve upped the salads and smoothies\u2026I\u2019m eating a lot more protein\u2026and nixing most carbs for a while.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m certainly eating a lot more raw foods than I did during the holidays and it feels great!<\/p>\n<p>Nadia from <a title=\"Nature Insider\" href=\"http:\/\/natureinsider.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Nature Insider<\/a> contacted me a few weeks back and asked if I\u2019d be willing to review her new e-book <a title=\"The Daily Raw\" href=\"http:\/\/natureinsider.com\/ebook\/\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cThe Daily Raw\u201d<\/a>. She was one of my first \u201cblogger friends\u201d when I started up Colourful Palate almost a year ago and I\u2019ve always enjoyed her posts and beautiful photography, so of course, I was only too happy to review it!<\/p>\n<p>When I got a hold of her e-book, once again, I was blown away by her beautiful and tantalizing photos of fresh, vibrant recipes! Just gorgeous! She makes healthy eating look more than appealing!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1797\" title=\"Daily-Raw-book\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colourfulpalate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Daily-Raw-book-434x600.jpg\" alt=\"Daily-Raw-book\" width=\"434\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colourfulpalate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Daily-Raw-book-434x600.jpg 434w, https:\/\/www.colourfulpalate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Daily-Raw-book.jpg 782w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 434px) 100vw, 434px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>She has got everything you need to know about basic raw \u201ccooking\u201d (oxymoron, I know!) in there\u2026from making a basic nut milk, smoothies, and raw cheeses! She also has a great salad section, which I\u2019m super excited about! (I\u2019m always looking for creative salads and\/or dressings)<\/p>\n<p>As I once was a devoted raw foodie for a couple years, I know how hard it is to find main meals that fit in the \u201ccomfort food\u201d category. Nadia takes care of that and has five main meals from lasagna to three different kinds of pasta! One of the \u201cpasta\u201d recipes is called \u201cWhite Pasta Parmigiano Style\u201d. Seriously, if that doesn&#8217;t sound good, I don\u2019t know what does!<\/p>\n<p>Then, after I finally tore myself away from staring down the photos in the \u201cMain Meals\u201d section, I found the desserts. Oh my. Raw truffles, cakes, and mousses\u2026a decadent, yet healthy dessert is my happy place.<\/p>\n<p>My overall review of <a title=\"The Daily Raw\" href=\"http:\/\/natureinsider.com\/ebook\/\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cThe Daily Raw\u201d e-book<\/a> is: If you want to get eat incredibly healthy with total nutrition and maximum deliciousness, this gem of an e-book is a great way to do it! I know I\u2019ll be enjoying her recipes!
