Lately people have been asking me about tips for beginning a blog. My first reaction was, \u2018That\u2019s so sweet!\u2019 And my second reaction was, \u2018But I don\u2019t have any wisdom for blogging yet! I just started!\u2019<\/p>\n
But then I thought\u2026\u2019Advice for beginning<\/em> a blog\u2026I guess I might have a little wisdom for starting<\/em> a health\/fitness website.\u2019<\/p>\n So here are my best ideas for beginning a food or health website!<\/p>\n Get a Good Design<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n I\u2019m a very visual person, so I\u2019m naturally attracted to going to professional, fun blogs with great layouts. I guess it sounds shallow, but I think it\u2019s important if you want your blog to be successful to have a clean, non-distracting layout.<\/p>\n It doesn’t mean you have to spend money either. WordPress and Blogspot have a lot of clean layout options!<\/p>\n Use Spellcheck<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n My Dad has always said if people misspell in an article, they lose some of their credibility. I think that can be true. But I also know that when I\u2019m excited about what I\u2019m writing about, I\u2019ll type really fast and make little mistakes. I’ve had to fix many typos on my site\u2026SO that\u2019s why it\u2019s important to use spell-checker BEFORE<\/strong> you post! People will respect what you\u2019re saying more\u2026when it\u2019s spelled correctly.<\/p>\n Write your Content When You\u2019re Inspired<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n This is something I\u2019m still working on. Usually every night I\u2019m writing blog posts in my head\u2026when I\u2019m supposed to be sleeping. But that’s when I\u2019m the most creative! Somehow I need to switch around my writing schedule!<\/p>\n However, I notice a difference in how I write when I\u2019m feeling creatively motivated. When you\u2019re excited about what you\u2019re writing, people can tell that you\u2019re passionate about it! Write about what you love!<\/p>\n Use Pictures<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n The sites that I frequent the most use a lot of pictures\/photos in their posts. Maybe it\u2019s just my hyper-ness, but I can get bored by sites that have long articles without photos. I can be super fascinated by the same article, if they insert a related photo. I\u2019m sort of like a 6 year old when it comes to my attention span. I think it\u2019s really cool when the blogger uses their own photography.<\/p>\n Take Good Quality Pictures<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n I\u2019m no expert at photography! I have SO SO much to learn in this field! Once again, speaking from experience, the blogs that I really haunt have good photos. Especially in the health site world\u2026if you want to inspire people to eat healthy\u2026a blurry, orange photo of some brown, mushy looking dish doesn’t particularly motivate. Good photos are inspiring!<\/p>\n Participate in the Community<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Make your blog known. Maybe become a member of Food Buzz<\/a>. Get a Twitter<\/a> account. Share your posts with friends on Facebook<\/a>. Make friends with other bloggers and comment on their posts. Submit your recipes\/photos through sites like FoodGawker<\/a>, PhotoGrazing<\/a>, HealthFreakFood,<\/a> Makes and Takes<\/a>, Tasteologie<\/a> and Tastespotting<\/a>.<\/p>\n I have been so blessed by the foodie friends that I have met through blogging!
