Recently my home city got a couple new frozen yogurt shops…you have no idea how happy this makes me. I must admit that frozen yogurt is one of my food obsessions.
Then, there are all those fun toppings you can add. Sometimes I get a little carried away.
While I realize that most bought frozen yogurts still have a lot of sugar, it probably won’t dampen my enthusiasm for it as a treat. However, I have found several ways I like to make it at home WITHOUT all the sugar.
When I’m really desperate, I make my basic frozen yogurt that is really quick to make (or my double chocolate frozen yogurt recipe), but when I have more time, I like to make frozen yogurt in our ice-cream maker. In the past, I’ve made my frozen yogurts with a lower fat plain yogurt and while they were delicious, they didn’t taste like the creamy store-bought kind. Then my Aunt made me some of her frozen yogurt. I couldn’t believe how creamy it was. She said the secret was in the kind of yogurt you buy…and that is should be 11% fat.
So thanks to her, we got a higher fat Greek yogurt (which was also higher in protein – double bonus!) and my frozen yogurt recipes haven’t been the same. My brain is still spinning at all the flavours I need to make.
Here’s my delectable strawberry recipe! Serves 4-5 people.
Irresistible Strawberry Frozen Yogurt
- 1 tub yogurt (11%)
- 1 cup frozen strawberries
- 6 packs Truvia
- 1-2 tsp vanilla
- Splash of almond milk
Blend everything up in a high-speed blender. Pour into your ice-cream maker according to the manufacturer’s directions until thick. Spoon into bowls, top with strawberries, and enjoy!
