Irresistible Strawberry Frozen Yogurt

Easy Frozen Yogurt Recipe

Recently my home city got a couple new frozen yogurt shops…you have no idea how happy this makes me. I must admit that frozen yogurt is one of my food obsessions.

Then, there are all those fun toppings you can add. Sometimes I get a little carried away.

Store bough frozen yogurt

While I realize that most bought frozen yogurts still have a lot of sugar, it probably won’t dampen my enthusiasm for it as a treat. However, I have found several ways I like to make it at home WITHOUT all the sugar.

When I’m really desperate, I make my basic frozen yogurt that is really quick to make (or my double chocolate frozen yogurt recipe), but when I have more time, I like to make frozen yogurt in our ice-cream maker. In the past, I’ve made my frozen yogurts with a lower fat plain yogurt and while they were delicious, they didn’t taste like the creamy store-bought kind. Then my Aunt made me some of her frozen yogurt. I couldn’t believe how creamy it was. She said the secret was in the kind of yogurt you buy…and that is should be 11% fat.

So thanks to her, we got a higher fat Greek yogurt (which was also higher in protein – double bonus!) and my frozen yogurt recipes haven’t been the same. My brain is still spinning at all the flavours I need to make.

Strawberry Frozen Yogurt Recipe

Here’s my delectable strawberry recipe! Serves 4-5 people.

Irresistible Strawberry Frozen Yogurt

  1. 1 tub yogurt (11%)
  2. 1 cup frozen strawberries
  3. 6 packs Truvia
  4. 1-2 tsp vanilla
  5. Splash of almond milk

Blend everything up in a high-speed blender. Pour into your ice-cream maker according to the manufacturer’s directions until thick. Spoon into bowls, top with strawberries, and enjoy!

Oh wow… that looks amazing. We were given an ice cream maker that we’ve never used, can you believe it?! I really need to dig it out because no other method of making frozen treats keeps the correct consistency.

  2. Sharpened Pomnitz

What size “tub” of yogurt do you use for this recipe? It says you make 5 servings from it. Perhaps these are a few tablespoon servings? Please give me more detail. Thank you.

Sharpened Pomnitz – It’s the standard tub of yogurt – so 650g. They are 3/4 cup-ish servings.

Looks so yummy! I need an ice cream maker! :D

Oh that’s totally irresistible Charissa! Not only does frozen yogurt look and taste good, but it’s also a healthy dessert for those who are on a diet. Furthermore, it’s a healthy replacement for fat-filled ice cream. Eating it won’t probably help you lose weight but you won’t gain from it either compared to eating a similar helping of ice cream. It has much lower fat and it has live cultures which aids in digestion. Switching to yogurt will turn out to be healthier for you and for your family :)

This looks awesome (and perfect for a hot summer day)! I need a few more excuses to bust out my ice cream maker and this looks like the perfect one. Stopping by from Trim Healthy Tuesdays :)

  14. Shalayne

Where do you find that yogurt? I’ve been looking for a higher fat yogurt everywhere!

  15. Charissa

Shalayne – Hmmm, I get mine at Superstore (Safeway or Save On Foods). Also, pretty sure they sell it at the health food store.

I loved the photo… and now I’m going to be making this for my parents who love Ice cream but can’t or should I say … shouldn’t be eating it! So, I’m going to pass this on as an ice cream, then tell’m what it really is and see what they say…. ( i know they’ll love it…)!

  17. suzette

Will it work with 0% Greek yogurt??

  18. Charissa

    Suzette – Yes!
